Remembering Sis. Adrienne Scott
The Sisters Helping Sisters in Christ Ministry is a non-profit organization that empowers women to achieve fulfillment through bible study workshops, discussion groups, mentoring, peer-counseling, and fellowship. Adrienne's role in the SHSIC Ministry was not just a position; it was a commitment to the ministry's core purpose.
Her friendship with Karoline, which began in the fall of 1995, led to the creation of an organized space where women of all ages could foster and fortify their entire being: mind, body, and soul. Adrienne came to Karoline with a heart for the Lord and specifically asked for one-on-one bible study. These lessons they shared together laid the bricks for what would then become the SHSIC Ministry!
As one of the founding board members, Adrienne had the opportunity to help establish its direction and set board policy, all of which supported the SHSIC Ministry's stated mission. She fulfilled these obligations with time, talent, and relationship building. Adrienne's specific contributions included serving as the ministry’s Secretary, serving on the Relationships committee and mentoring.
Adrienne worked diligently to understand SHSIC Ministry's vision, purpose, goals, and programs, and she prepared for all board and committee meetings by reviewing related documents and materials in advance. In recent years, she was elevated to the SHSIC Virtuous Women Elders Council, serving as a Senior Advisor and Mentor, until she went on to be with the Lord.
During her time with the SHSIC Ministry, Adrienne knew that she, along with the rest of the Executive Board, was the face of the ministry. She represented SHSIC in the best possible way by engaging family, friends, and colleagues to support the ministry’s mission through attendance at events, active promotion of fundraising initiatives, and other personal efforts to promote the work of SHSIC Ministry, such as collaboration with New Light Baptist Church.
For three decades, Adrienne has been a key figure in the success of the Sisters Helping Sisters in Christ Ministry. Working alongside fellow members, Dr. Karoline Bethea-Jones, Vickey Sims, Keyana Jones-Nikaamen, Marilyn Cole, and Anita Crum, she has helped create programs that encourage, uplift, educate, and empower women to achieve their goals and walk in their power and purpose.
From its inception, the ministry's primary mission was to intentionally develop friendships among women of different generations, all while using biblical principles to invest in each other's lives through encouragement, guidance, listening, laughing, and Agape loving. The group's goal was to form solid and lasting relationships amongst women that are a source of support, growth, and strength. With Adrienne's assistance, we have achieved that goal.
We supported Adrienne through every stage of her illness. We proudly marched arm-in-arm with her at the annual Breast Cancer Walk in Newark, and we’ve showered her with healing prayers each time she was out of remission. There is no doubt that Adrienne was a survivor, and she fought long and hard until the very end. We thank God for the 71 years of life Adrienne was given and we celebrate her legacy. Please know that she wasted none of it.
The SHSIC Ministry will always remember Sis. Adrienne and the profound impact she had on the lives of the women she touched. We extend our heartfelt gratitude to her family for sharing her with us and offer our deepest condolences during this difficult time. Adrienne's love for God and commitment to living a life that was pleasing to Him will continue to inspire us all.
May she rest in power and peace, taking her rightful place amongst the angels.
